:: BROADCAST MEDIA SCULPTURES ::

Duration:
May 2009 – Octobor 2010

BROADCAST MEDIA SCULPTURES produces artistic explorations, at the same time fostering broad participation and creativity in the course of an experimental investigation on the future of mass media. Playing on radio, TV, New Media, (semi-)public and social spaces as artistic media, the project will gather artists from various backgrounds, such as music, theatre, video, performance and installation art, as well as new and emerging forms operating along the interfaces of art, technology and social studies.

Project Phase I: MEDIA PLAYGROUNDS
A trans-European series of one week long events to mobilise artistic and creative approaches among the contributors of local media institutions. The MEDIA PLAYGROUNDS will take place in 5 cities: Amsterdam, Sofia, Budapest, London and Vienna.

Project Phase II: SCULPTURE PARKS
Each city (Amsterdam, Budapest and Vienna) will host a mixed media intervention with a 3 week residency and play site-specific on 5 local media institutions as (semi-) public/social spaces. Furthermore, 30 works of art using TV, radio, new and mixed media will be selected by a 6 member jury.

CULTURAL INTERFACE
A multi-media online platform which links all of the project’s activities and further cultural archives, local scenes and international networks, beyond the projects lifetime. The interface will combine the format of a participatory video-platform and provide a tool to present and collaborate across trans-national and interdisciplinary backgrounds on an ongoing basis.

Final Conference: FUTURE OF OLD MEDIA
The conference will sum up and valorise artistic investigations for the raised media theoretical question, confront contemporary scientific positions and network multipliers for follow up and future activities,
Europe-wide.
